Directed by Simon Billington

Synopsis

When Ivan Vassilevitch Lomov visits his neighbour, Stepan Stapanov Chubukov, one balmy summer afternoon, he hopes that the historic friendship of the two families will aid his endeavours in asking for the hand of Chubukov's daughter, Natalya Stepanova, in marriage. Bowled over by the gesture, Chubukov seeks out Natalya for Lomov to declare his undying love to her, sweep her off her feet and live happily ever after. Or rather that's what he imagined. His joys appear dashed when raised voices beckon him back as an explosive dispute over land threatens the proposal itself. Soon the three are hurtled into an embittered row, that spills beyond the deeds to the Oxon Meadows. What is more important love or land? How deep is their neighbourly bond? And can Ivan Vassilevitch Lomov's nerves survive a marriage proposal?

Audition process

There will be 2 first round audition sessions and then recalls by invitation only. All auditions will be pre-booked on Eventbrite in groups of up to six. There is no need to prepare anything in advance. Each slot will last 20 minutes.

Both first round auditions and recalls will look at the types of choices actors like to make, either in improvisation or with text. As such this audition process is about looking for creativity rather matching performers to a breakdown.
