The Road Less Travelled at the National Drama Festival

OTG is pleased to announce that The Road Less Travelled by Janet Bolam has been invited to take part in the National Drama Festival, which is being held at the Albany Theatre, Coventry, from 17th-23rd July.

The invitation came on the recommendation of ODN, following the one-act play's success at the Oxfordshire Drama Network Festival. The Road Less Travelled was the runner up for the Best Original Play Award and received the Punters Prize.

Congratulations to playwright Janet Bolam, director Wayne T. Brown, and the cast!

About the play

When Carol bumps into old school friend Leila, it shakes her up. She realises she has allowed her life to slip away from her. Leila has suggested they meet up for a drink, but Bob, her abusive husband, has forbidden her to go. However, Bob has gone on a “golfing trip” ( although Carol knows he’s really in Paris with his mistress) so Carol meets Leila behind his back. Seeing herself and her marriage through Leila’s eyes, Carol is reminded her of the ambition and zest for life she had as a young girl – which came to a halt when she became a single mother. Bob returns from Paris when he discovers she has disobeyed him and an argument descends into violence. For once, Carol decides she must take matters into her own hands.

About the Festival

The winners of local amateur Festivals throughout the British Isles have been competing all year for the right to be selected for the annual National Drama Festival.

The Festival is run by the National Drama Festivals Association (NDFA) and comprises seven evenings of adult one-act, youth one-act and adult full-length plays, all of which have been selected to compete based on merit.

To see the Running Order for the full week, visit www.ndfa.co.uk.

The whole Festival will be adjudicated by the Guild of Drama Adjudicators (GoDA), specifically esteemed Adjudicator, Jan Palmer-Sayer, who will assess each play after it has been performed, and announce the full results on the Saturday evening.
