Chariots of Fire launch event

Posted on Sep 9, 2018

We are well underway with planning for Chariots of Fire – our Spring 2019 Playhouse production and would like to invite anyone who is interested in getting involved on and off stage to join us for the launch event.   It will be a chance to hear about the show, the staging ideas, how casting will work, the athletics and musical elements – and to ask lots of questions.   The launch event will be 6.30pm to 8pm on Sunday 14th October. We will be in the Oxford Playhouse rehearsal room which is located at HMG in the centre of Oxford: 126 High Street, Oxford, OX1 4DG (these directions might help).   If you are interested in joining the production team there are a wide range of roles to consider – design, wardrobe, props, hair and make up, music, choreography, lighting, sound, stage management and much more.  It is an ambitious project and the more support we have, the better it will be!   If you are interested in auditioning, there will be a chance to look at the list of over 130 characters we will be looking to cast – we are looking for actors, athletes, singers, dancers.  We are ultimately looking for a cast of between 25 and 30 to bring this iconic story to life on stage.   With so many opportunities, it would be great to see as many people as possible there.  If you can’t make it and have questions, please email simon.tavener@oxfordtheatreguild.com   For your diary, the audition dates are as follows (we are still confirming locations): First Round auditions Wednesday 24 October 8pm – 10pm Saturday 27 October 11am to 1pm Monday 29 October 7.30pm – 9.30pm Recall audition (by invitation only) Sunday 4 November 6pm to 10pm   Full details will be announced very...

Treasure Island launch event

Posted on Jan 1, 2018

We are pleased to announce that our 2018 summer show will be: Treasure Island directed by Mike Taylor and Ophélie Lebrasseur (movement). We are thrilled to be presenting this exciting project at Trinity College in July 2018. Mike writes: “Our Treasure Island will be a spectacle of drama, lighting, sound and movement. This is not a pantomime or a cartoon: this is a thrilling coming-of-age story, of murder, greed and adventure. Our show will have the audiences sitting on the edge of their seats, engaged in and gripped by the action and movement. In a space such as the wilderness in Trinity, there is much opportunity for immersive theatre, and the directorial team will be using elements of parkour and capoeira. Ophélie (director of movement) will lead sessions to develop the physical performances, which will be suitable for people of all ages, fitness and experience. The preferred adaptation (which was commissioned for a recent National Theatre production) has a well-balanced cast for an equal number of women and men, aged from 18 and up. The lead part, Jim, is a young woman in this script.” We are holding a launch event on 15th January 2018 at 7.30pm at the Summertown URC hall. This will be a chance to meet the directors and find out more about the project. We hope that you will be able to come! Auditions will be towards the end of January, with full details to be announced soon. Please email mike@61homeclose.co.uk if you have any questions about this launch event. Facebook event:...

Extra actress needed for Mary Stuart at the Playhouse

Posted on Jan 14, 2015

We are seeking an additional female actor (20s-30s) to play a movement/drama (non-speaking) based role in our production of ‘Mary Stuart’ (Oxford Playhouse, 10th-14th March 2015, including a  Saturday matinee) – an extraordinary retelling of a central moment in British history. Within the play the director is creating two roles – Imagined Mary  and Imagined Elizabeth.  The context of the roles is that each of the queens is obsessed with the other, and talks about the other queen a great deal. Yet neither queen has seen the other. The ‘imagined queens’ will appear when they are being talked about – so imagined Mary appears when Elizabeth talks about Mary, and Imagined Elizabeth appears when Mary talks about Elizabeth. The imagined queen roles are movement/drama based, without lines. We have done some work to start creating these roles, and a couple of early rehearsals, but sadly the actor playing Imagined Elizabeth has had to withdraw from the production. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays, Thurdays and Sundays in Summertown, Oxford from now until the production week. There would be some flexibility in which rehearsals you would be required to attend. If you would be interested in this part please email the director, Hedda Bird as soon as possible to arrange a meeting during rehearsals. You can see more information about the production at the production page. Please note that you will need to be a current member of OTG (£10/year subscription with concessions) to perform. 14th January...

We hope you’ve spotted that OTG has a brand new look and a brand new website. The committee has been hard at work over the past few months to give OTG a makeover and deliver a better web experience to our members, our audiences and anyone who might be considering auditioning, working backstage or coming along to one of our shows. Hopefully that’s you!
