THE COMPANY The Oxford Theatre Guild (OTG). Formerly know as the City of Oxford Theatre Guild. Founded in 1955, is Oxford's largest company of amateur players. Its first production was The Merry Wives of Windsor in the gardens of Worcester College, Oxford. While nominally an 'amateur' company, a number of members are former or current professionals. We endeavour to achieve professional production standards and perform regularly in professional venues. The Oxford Playhouse, The Old Fire Station, and a College garden for the summer show. This has enabled the Guild to become a valuable training ground for actors with ambitions to enter the profession, with the opportunity to learn from experienced people around them. Each year sees yet more members entering drama school - one is currently doing so with the aid of a bursary paid by the Guild. The Guild also aims to provide opportunities for members to develop skills and to gain experience in new areas of theatre practice such as directing, lighting, set-building and costumes (to name but a few). To achieve this the Guild has a thriving programme of workshops and has instituted a scheme of work-shadowing, whereby a member of the backstage crew can be partnered by another Guild member who is interested in learning more about what the job entails before taking on the role themselves. All auditions are open to all (members and non-members) and are advertised accordingly through the press, on our website www.oxfordtheatreguild.com and in the Guild News - a monthly newsletter which is sent to all our members. Guild members are drawn from all over Oxfordshire, and therefore, at the AGM in 2001 we resolved to change the name to Oxford Theatre Guild, to reflect this. Join our e-mailing list of Auditions, Shows or Workshops. Membership details are available from David Guthrie david.guthrie@oxfordtheatreguild.com please supply postal address for news letter.
